The principal honorees at the traditional Bris Milah ceremony are as follows:
- The Kvatters, a couple designated by the family to carry the baby to the place where the Bris will be performed, and to carry the child out after the ceremony is over.
- The Sandek, a man (often the child's grandfather) designated by the family to hold the child on his lap while the Bris is taking place.
- The Mohel.
- Someone designated to hold the baby during the Baby-naming part of the ceremony (some refer to this as the "Standing Sandek").
